John Ferren (1905-1970)
John Ferren was born in Pendleton, Oregon, on October 17, 1905. Going to Europe in 1929, he is noted for his success in France. He was one of the few members of the American Abstract Artists to come to artistic maturity in Paris. In Paris Ferren was introduced to William Stanley Hayter’s Parisian Atelier 17. He and Picasso together stretched the canvas for Guernica, in 1937. Ferren returned to the United States in 1938, settling in New York.
